Fate

February 20, 2010

In the dark criminal world of Seoul, U-min (Song), Cheol-jung (Kwon), Do-wan (Kim In-kwon) and Yeong-hwan (Ji Sung) are close friends in a gang. One day, with the help of an older member Gang-seop (Ahn Nae-seong), U-min, Cheol-jung and Do-wan attack the gang’s casino so they can start new lives. But their plan goes awry when Cheol-jung betrays them, and U-min goes to prison. He becomes the scapegoat to save his friends’ lives.

After serving his time, U-min wants to stay out of trouble but is drawn back into the underworld when he sees what has become of his friends: money and power-hungry Cheol-jung continues to betray others as he climbs up the gang ladder; Do-wan is a drug user; Gang-seop is missing; and his girlfriend Eun-yeong (Park Han-byul) has left him to run a bar as the boss’ mistress.

As U-min tries to solve the situation, however, unfortunate twists of fate set off one misunderstanding after another. To make matters worse, the mob boss and right-hand man Yoeng-hwan get them involved in a huge drug deal. Once again thrown into a game with high stakes and big cash, the once best friends must fight one another for their lives.

AKA Sseom-meo-ta-im
In the dark ‘80s, Sang-ho is wanted by the authorities for participating in the student movement. He ends up in a town he has no connections to, hiding on the second floor of a worn down wooden house. One day, he discovers a hole looking into the room downstairs, and he happens to see Hee-ran. Every gesture she makes is captivating and seductive. He watches her body, feels her, and takes her into his heart. She lives a confined life, like Sang-ho. Her husband locks the door from the outside when he goes to work. Then, one day, he drops his keys on his way out. Sang-ho hesitates before he uses them to go in, but when he does, he sees her lying face down in the same position she usually is in while engaged in sex with her husband. Sang-ho approaches her. He caresses her the same way her husband does, and she receives him out of habit. Then one day, he does not caress her like he usually does. Thinking it strange, Hee-ran turns around. The gaze of the two crisscross heatedly. Sang-ho guiltily hangs his head when Hee-ran strokes his face tenderly.

Chang-Sik, even though he graduated from a prestigious university as a psychology major, is unemployed and drifts through life with apathy. He still lives with his brother and sister-in-law and is constantly berated by his sister-in-law for being a deadbeat. Chang-Sik spends his days losing money at the horse tracks or takes his nephew for lunch at the local grocery store (for the free samples).
Mi-Yeong, unlike her successful sister, idles her time away at the counter of her mother’

s video rental shop. She is always told by her mother, that she is adopted.
One evening these slackers meet near their neighborhood by chance and witness a fatal hit and run accident. Soon afterwards their fortunes seem to finally change when they see a sign offering a reward ($50,000) for anyone that witnessed the hit and run accident.
Of course with their luck, things are not quite what they appear and they soon learn that the hit and run was not an accident, but a hit planned by a criminal ring that also is behind the $50,000 reward.

    The Contact

    February 3, 2009

The Contact was a breakthrough hit in 1997 that catapulted Jeon Do-yeon to stardom and took many Korean viewers by surprise: they had never expected such an urbane, meticulously constructed, intelligent melodrama from Korean filmmakers. The Contact is indeed an immensely well-crafted film: it cannot be brushed off as a gimmick movie about an internet romance (“A boy and a girl chat in the internet: they fall in love: will they recognize each other when they meet offline?”), or a star vehicle for Jeon and Han Suk-kyu, wonderful as they are in their respective roles. The male radio presenter Donghyun and the female TV home shopping phone operator Soohyun are both lonely. While Donghyun is focused on getting back to his ex-girl-friend Younghae who has sent him a special LP, Soohyun is crazy for her friend’s boy-friend. Via Internet and music Soohyun and Donghyun get together in a special way.
